What Apprenticeship Programs are available?
We offer “State of California” recognized, registered, apprenticeship training programs for the following crafts: Carpenters, Millwrights, Pile Drivers, Scaffold Erectors, Acoustical Installers, Insulators, Floorlayers, and Shinglers.
How old do I have to be to sign-up?
Eighteen years old, or seventeen with a parent or guardian's signature.
How do I apply?
Pick up an application and fill it out completely, then bring it in or mail it to the closest district office.
What if I don't have the minimum requirements?
The best thing to do is access one of the pre-apprenticeship programs to earn what you are lacking, i.e. HS Diploma, GED, etc.
How much does it pay?
Starting pay varies in each area, and can range from $17.40/hr in the Greater Bay Area (9 county area), to $14.62/hr Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clarita (3 county area), to $13.81/hr all other counties (34 county area).
Are there any costs?
Although the apprenticeship program is tuition-free, there are some costs. These include Union Membership Fees (usually $20/month), books (approximately $130 over the term of the apprenticeship) and the cost of the hand tools that are needed for school and work. The tools could cost from $200 to upwards of $300.
Are there any benefits?
Benefits include medical (for the whole family), dental, vision, vacation pay, annuity and pension. The benefits are accrued as an apprentice progresses through the program, meeting qualifications to gain each benefit one by one.
How do I get raises?
Raises are awarded when an apprentice meets the following three criteria: 6 month's time in the program, 600 hours of work on- the- job, and two completed classes.
How often do I attend classes?
Classes are scheduled every three months throughout the duration of the apprenticeship, and are 36 hours in length (one week). See Apprenticeship Classes By Trade.
