Steel Framing - Commercial

This course trains carpenters in the skills required to frame with steel framing members in the commercial construction industry. The course begins with an introduction to steel framing components, material shapes and thicknesses, fastening techniques and a review of the most common code and engineering details for connections used in commercial construction. During the hands-on portion of the class each participant will construct three typical curtain wall/panel applications: continuous or "by-pass" curtain walls that are built to by-pass one or more structural floors, in-fill curtain walls that are built in between structural floors and columns with connections that allow for the deflection of the structure, and spandrel systems. The use of steel components for roof-framing - both truss systems and conventional framing - will be studied and practiced.
