What to Expect After Applying

This is important applicant information. Use the arrow to expand the step-by-step explanation.

What Happens After You Apply Mailed ARL letter, applicant referral number, place in line, and what to do while waiting.
  • Complete your application. Fill out the application for your selected training center and craft. You may use the online application link or the printable form when available.
  • Watch your mailbox for your ARL letter. Within approximately 7 to 10 days, you should receive a letter in the mail confirming that your application has been received and entered on the Applicant Referral List.
  • Understand your Application Referral Number. Your letter will include an Application Referral Number, such as 26-5C-0000. The first two sets of numbers may vary depending on location and craft. The last four numbers generally represent the order in which the Carpenters Apprenticeship has received applications for that chosen craft.
  • Understand what the letter means. Receiving an ARL number confirms that your application has been accepted into the applicant pool. It does not guarantee immediate placement into Pre-Apprenticeship Training, apprenticeship, or employment.
  • Checking your current ARL number / place in line. If you would like to know whether your current ARL number, or place in line, has changed, you may contact your local training center. Please have your ARL number ready when calling. Visit the Training Center Locations page for contact information.
  • Use the waiting time wisely. The wait can be long depending on craft demand, contractor needs, and available openings. Review the FAQ section below for ways to prepare, learn about PAT, explore crafts, and understand possible next steps.
